PTS is proud to announce the arrival of the ProfitMaster Mail Merge Wizard for Microsoft® Word 97. This new addition to the ProfitMaster system will dramatically increase the ease with which you can quickly and painlessly perform a Mail Merge into Word 97 using data from ProfitMaster. As you already know, Mail Merging is a powerful tool which inserts information from your Customer & Billing Records to any type of document you have created. One of the most common ways it is used is to produce those Money Making 6 month reminder notices that all of you should send to your customers. If you have always wanted to use this Profit making feature in ProfitMaster but have been intimidated by the "Criteria" screen, we have good news for you. The Mail Merge Wizard for Word 97 painlessly integrates the resources in your Customer & Billing Records with the word processing power of Word 97. When installed, a "ProfitMaster" menu item is placed directly into the Word Menu Bar alongside of the more common menu items such as, "File", "Edit" and "View". Once you select the Mail Merge option form the ProfitMaster menu item, the Mail Merge Wizard will appear. The Wizard will prompt you for the desired criteria and then search your Customer & Billing database for matching records. You will then be offered a menu of predefined letters you can send to your customers (the letters can be customized by you to fit your specific needs). With the letter selected, the Wizard will then merge your customer data with the letter creating a personalized document for each of your selected customers! You will then be able to print the letter from Word, send them to your customers, and wait for the money to roll in! And best of all, the "bugs", "glitches" and other problems reported to us by 6/15/97 will be corrected. So please, dont put off calling us with any problems you may have noticed in the 5.5 prerelease versions. Our goal is to provide the best software package available in the Carpet Cleaning Industry. We thank you for all your help, suggestions and patience in helping us attain this goal. I cannot over emphasize the importance of backing up your data to an external source. I tell this to customers every day, but still I answer calls from distraught ProfitMaster users who say they have lost their data due to an electrical surge, hard disk failure, or some other equally heinous occurrence. When I ask if they had a back up they all say the same thing, "Well, Ive been meaning to start doing that..." There is no excuse for not backing up your data! We all tend to think of computers as "Magical" and indestructible devices. I have some bad news for you, they arent! No matter what great care we may bestow upon these electrical geniuses they are still known to fail, losing all of you data with it. What excuse do you have to risk losing your valuable business information. You should be backing up all of your important data and you should be doing this on a Daily Basis! Though it is recommend backing up your whole system, the pertinent files to back up for ProfitMaster are any files in the Master directory with a DBF extension. If you have been in business for several years you have probably accumulated 100s - 1000s of Invoice and Customer Records. You take them for granted. Theyre there every time you turn on your trusty PC. What if you were to turn on your computer one day and they werent there. How would that affect your business, not only that, think of the cost of having to hire someone to dig through all your old invoices and re-input them! Those of you that have already experienced a data loss know exactly what I mean. The cost of back up devices has dropped to around $150 - $200 This is a small price to pay considering the hours and aggravation it would take to re-input all of your data. Remember, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! Go out and buy your back-up device NOW! In June, we will be offering a series of 1 day ProfitMaster training seminars at our headquarters in Woodland Hills, California. The topics covered in this seminar range from Beginning ProfitMaster to Maximizing ProfitMaster, as well as introductory courses to Computers and Microsoft Windows. The cost is $295 for the first person & $225 for additional people. Instruction will last from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. with a break for lunch. These seminars will prove to be very informative and provide you with an opportunity for one-on-one training. Then type master [Enter].How do I make a Shortcut to ProfitMaster in Windows 95? Place your Mouse cursor on the Windows Desktop. Click your right mouse button once. A menu appears. Click New, click Shortcut. In the Shortcut Wizard Command line type:For DOS version: C:\Master\master.exe For Windows version: C:\Master\profit.exe Click Next. In the Select a name for the shortcut type: For DOS version: ProfitMaster for DOS. Click Next For Windows version: ProfitMaster for Windows. Click Finish For DOS, select an Icon for the new shortcut and click Finish. How do I apply a Discount in ProfitMaster? To apply a Discount in ProfitMaster you must first set up the discount as an item in your Services & Sales Items. Select Open (File menu). Select Services & Sales Items. Select Add New Records ( Edit menu). In the Item Name type in the type of Discount you want, i.e. "Senior Discount". Skip down to Item Price and enter the amount of the discount as a negative number. For example: a 10% discount should be entered as 10.00. In the Type field enter : %. Taxable and Commissioned should both be N. Save the record.You can now use this discount as a service item in the service item area of your work order. Makes sure to enter the discount as the last service item so it will apply to the whole job. I f you are like many ProfitMaster users, you want to explore some of the more advanced functions of the program but you are afraid of causing unrepairable damage to your business records. A great way to get around this is to log into ProfitMaster using "Student" as the logon name.In this "Student" mode you can experiment while leaving your original ProfitMaster intact. As a "Student", you can try out new ways of doing things or use it to train new employees without causing any damage to your working business records. Go Ahead, Try it ! |
